Our hot summers have the up-side of providing the ideal conditions for growing heat-loving veggies like tomatoes and eggplant. How fortuitous that they taste so good together!
As a child I hated eggplant. Then I grew up and decided I should try them again. Turns out they weren’t too bad after all (this didn’t work with mushrooms, though).
Each year we are bombarded with fruits from our trees and that of my parents. I’ve decided that the best way to “share the love” is to make a variety of treats to pass on to friends and loved ones.
If a fig tree is anywhere near a sidewalk or roadway in Greece, any fruits over the property line is fair game for passers by.
So tell me, does anyone else look at their sourdough starter and yell in a mad scientist type voice “IT’S ALIVE!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!” or is it just me?
If you are fortunate enough to have a fig tree, you will never starve. Well, at least while the figs are in season.

You know the old saying “close only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades”? Well, close is seldom close enough when it comes to certain foods, it’s either get the real-deal or go home and make it yourself.

I didn’t get to enjoy this treat much when I was a kid. Once I got a home with a yard large enough, I planted a sour cherry tree just so I could have it when I wanted. That took care of that!
