Over the river and through the woods to grandfather’s house, we go. Actually it was grandfather’s cabin in the nearby foothills on a parcel of land the Old Man’s parents purchased several decades ago. The family built the rough cabin by hand and visited on occasion when the Old Man and his siblings were growing up.

We decided to spend the day after Thanksgiving avoiding crowds and chores at home and took the younger boys, my sister- and brother-in-law up to the cabin. Sadly, the elements and neglect have taken their toll on the structure, but we still enjoy exploring the area. It beats crowded parking lots and shopping malls any day!
